The ‘Modern Folk Group EP’ collects the first new recordings to emerge from Mark McDowell’s new studio set up.

The tracks are linked in as much as Of Leaf, Touch the Rainbow and Thee Trees are remixes/ re-workings of the first track Died in Love.

Died in Love is partly derived from a traditional song of which there are many variations. Taking inspiration from these found originals a new version has been written in the guise of an ambiguous murder ballad.

This EP has been developed over the last year between different studio set ups and recording locations. The idea to remix and rework the original recordings is due to the volume of material recorded and the desire to experiment. This in some way revisits the vision of Mark McDowell’s first album ‘Rooks Wedding’ in its acoustic/ electronic treatment.
